The holidays are a time that is full of family traditions. Family traditions that no one should be left out of, regardless of their food allergies or intolerances. I can speak from experience. It is saddening when a loved one (or yourself) has to miss out on what everyone else is eating or drinking. From cookie exchanges, to holiday potluck parties, candy, and yes even drinks. If you have found your way to my blog chances are that you have experienced the same thing.
The holidays are meant to be a celebration time with family and loved ones. No one should ever be left out.
When I was a little girl my family would do "cheers" every night in December. Before bed we'd read a holiday story and sip eggnog, tea, or hot chocolate. We'd each have our own holiday mug and we loved clinking them together and saying "cheers."
Because my kids are so little I haven't carried that tradition on in my own home yet. With the time change, bed time is somewhere around 6:30 and we just don't have time at night. Maybe we'll do "cheers" in the morning this year during the holiday season. I'll give my kids a cup of hot chocolate, and my husband and I can enjoy our morning cup o'Joe with a sweet holiday twist.
This Dairy Free Chocolate Peppermint Creamer has combined some of my favorite holiday flavors in a super easy dairy free creamer recipe that takes just minutes to mix up, and is free of refined sugar! Plus, I've included a bonus dairy free sugar cookie creamer recipe for you. It tastes like sugar cookies!
Just a pour a little bit of whichever dairy free creamer "lights up your Christmas tree," and stir it into your favorite Starbucks coffee or other hot beverage. You can even flavor up the kiddos hot chocolate. (BTW, the dairy free sugar cookie creamer is da-bomb in some chai tea!)
I like that I can enjoy the same Starbucks coffee at home that I get in a shop. Starbucks French Roast is really dark and intense, the perfect bold taste for these cold winter months.
- 2 cups your favorite non-dairy milk
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (use dark or dutch-processed if you have it)
- 3 tablespoons hot water or coffee
- ⅛-1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract or a few drops of peppermint essential oil
- ½-1 teaspoon liquid stevia, or other sweetener to taste
- In a small bowl mix the cocoa powder and hot water or coffee together until smooth. The heat "activates" the chocolate flavor, plus it will help you to eliminate all clumps and lumps so that you have a smooth creamer.
- Add the non-dairy milk and stir until smooth. Add the stevia and the peppermint extract, starting with just a little bit, and then adding more if you want a stronger flavor/more sweetness. You don't want to have toothpaste flavored coffee.
- Store in the fridge in a sealed container or jar and use by whatever expiration date the milk had.

I love that you can buy Starbucks coffee not only in their coffee shops, but also in basically every grocery store or "big box store." I picked mine up at Target, because there is one near me and it is super convenient. The Starbucks in the store is a bonus!
Also you can get a $5 Starbucks Card e-gift when you purchase 3 or more qualifying Starbucks products and you can learn how to brew your own Starbucks Coffee at home!
