Just 4 ingredients in this 15 Minute Cranberry Sauce with Cider and Orange! Simple, and full of harvest flavors with fresh orange zest and apple cider.
I never had cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving when I was a little girl. All it took was one look at a slice of canned jellied cranberries and I was turned off.
It wasn't until later in life when someone brought homemade cranberry sauce over to our Thanksgiving feast that I even considered giving it a taste.
As a teenager I was in love with Alton Brown. One year for Christmas I got a dvd set of Good Eats. One of the included episodes is his 2 part Thanksgiving episode (one for the feast and another for all the leftovers!) In the episode, Alton Brown made a Tart Cranberry Dipping Sauce to go with his Turkey instead of gravy. I worshiped the ground that he walked on, so of course next Thanksgiving I made his Tart Cranberry Dipping Sauce.
And I was hooked.
I loved the tart, sweet flavors. They perfectly contrast turkey and brighten your entire meal.
Now I make this 15 minute cranberry sauce with cider and orange, which is a more traditional cranberry sauce, for Thanksgiving. But I wouldn't have fallen in love with cranberry sauce, if not for Alton Brown.
This easy 15 minute cranberry sauce with cider and orange is really so simple to make. All you have to do is toss 4 ingredients into a saucepan and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
The fresh orange zest really brightens the 15 minute cranberry sauce with some citrus flavor, and the apple cider brings a sweet harvest flavor to the dish. I'll sometimes use ginger ale instead of the apple cider (because that is what AB used in his cranberry dipping sauce,) and I think some hard cider would be amazing if that is your thing!
I not only enjoy this 15 Minute Cranberry Sauce during our feast, but I always spread a little on the inside of one of my friend Michelle's (she blogs at My Gluten-Free Kitchen) Gluten-Free Dinner Rolls with a slice of leftover turkey. It will be the best turkey sandwich of your life!
